What Do YOU Call It- A Blonde Brownie, Or A Pan Cookie...

I made this treat for the people at work, as I was off work on my birthday (Sept. 30!). I had been brought up to call this creation a "Blonde brownie". About 15yrs ago, someone I worked with brought in much the same treat on their birthday. "Oh boy! Blonde brownies!" I exclaimed. The woman looked at me in a puzzled way and said "These are pan cookies, my Mom taught me how to make them when I was young". We debated the issue, never resolving anything in what to call them going forward. They are no more than an adaptation of Toll House chocolate chip dough, spread put as one piece in a full sheet cookie pan. You can make these with dried fruit, nuts, white or butterscotch chips, or any variation of a choco chip cookie you've ever made. Watch the bake time- they are thicker than a cookie, but slightly thinner than a brownie! Enjoy your weekends everybody!!

Jen- It's like a relly, really thick Toll House cookie..
Trish & casdok- They didn't care what they were called at work, either!
UrbanV- I can see your mind turning this into a vegan treat as I write this!
Ake- I'm a guy, I don't know how to cut small!
Finn- Your name for this fits it pretty good too!
nancybee- I cut it up into squares before I brought it in, came out of a meeting and most were gone...
mel- I watched a guy with diabetes eat the hell out of one while I was telling him I had cut out some of the sugars in it. He said "Does this mean I have to eat another one?".
Rachael Ra- Odat! Thanks for the indorsement!
DogB- about the only time I put any kind of nut in a brownie is when somebody asks me to...
Snow- You and Finn agree on that!

Yes some things can be tough to 'translate,' especially if you learned the name for something when you were young, it just sort of sticks there, immutable.
Still there won't be much complaining when you have your mouth full of crumbs.
Cheers

Paul- I'm just getting more interested in what the country/world calls the same thing by a different name!

crallspace-Welcome to the blog!
Ake- I start every diet by being hungrier, then eating more! I think the word "diet" sets off a conditioned response to hoard and eat stuff that's bad for you...

mcewen- Telly/TV, Mum/Mom, bonnet/hood, a pint/brewski, mould/mold, rasher/piece, etc. That's just G.B to USA! I've lived here deciphering regional accents- and then they still use words different from mine! The word Ham- Midwest: Haam, South: Heyam, NYC Deli: Hem.....

A blonde brownie with nipples!

Steph- You make them sound like I'm a perverted Cub Scout.....

Akelamalu said...

I'd never thought of it like that before! Thanks Buffalo I think I may just forget the diet completely. :)
