I'm Eating Healthier, Just Not Tonight!!!!

This morning my wife and I discussed what sounded good to have for supper tonight. She surprised me by saying "We haven't had hot dogs for awhile- that sounds good". Usually I'm the one that dings for a couple of chili dogs, not her. She doesn't even eat chili dogs! She prefers a hot dog with mustard, catsup, chopped onion, and a couple of hamburger pickle slices (That is, when we're not having the infamous hot dog, 2 strips of bacon, and cheese creation we call a "frank-cheesy"!). I like a chili dog with a good dose of chili, melted co-jack cheese, and a couple of light squirts of mustard. We are not Jewish, but always buy Hebrew National brand all beef jumbo hot dogs- 'cause they are the best! I love their slogan "We answer to a higher authority"! My home made chili sauce recipe is published somewhere in my old posts- I share it with anybody, but I spent a long time getting this just right, so if you change anything in it, don't tell me! I figured I'd better take a picture of this, so I piled the finished dogs on one plate along with a bowl of another health food- cheese puffs! Ever since "South Park" came out, we have referred to them as "Cheesy Poofs" ala Cartman ("Hell yes, I want some Cheesy Poofs!"). We ate the heck out of them right after the photo session, and now I'm waiting for the thirsties to hit me- there's alot of Kosher salt in those Hebrew Nationals....
Oh, by the way- What do you like on your hot dog? And don't answer "everything"!!

Snow- My earliest memories of Saturday lunch as a kid was a cut up hot dog and a puddle of ketchup...
mt- The sin everybody commits, but never confesses to....
DogB- How can a salty and fat loaded tube of ground meat be so tasty?
DutchB- We will bring you to the dark side of American cuisine yet-buhahahahaha!
casdok- Anything we can eat without utensils in America is a popular food!
Beth- A condom? No, these were skinless hot dogs.....:)

Coleslaw
Mustard
Relish
Red onions
I like mine toasted with fries on the side...

I usually have hot dogs twice a year and it's during the summer. I had a craving just last week. It would be my second this year. I'll have to go get one... ;-)

BTW hot dogs are great for vegetarians too.. no meat in there, that's for sure! LOL

Their slogan is the best. I don't know if you have ever seen their TV commercials but they show a rabbi and as the voice-over comes on, you see him looking up. At least that's the way it runs in NY.

I am not a big hot dog fan, but I like chili, onions and cheese on mine. And I really only like them grilled or broiled, not boiled.

We only get Hebrew Nationals also, because they are goooood!

Pink- Good, classic selection!
Odat- I've seen Nathans featured on the Food Channel! Kraut and mustard? Are you from Germany?
nancybee- Coleslaw on a hot dog is a new one on me!
Paul- The brand is not widely used in Michigan. It's available, but they don't spend any money advertising it here!
Lynda- You and Pink are on the same page!
Amy- I'd love to, but I'm not driving your pink Caddy to the grocery store for the supplies!
Ake- I.will. never. stop. cooking!
You like pretty normal toppings for someone living in the U.K.!

.....because its a salty fat loaded tube of ground meat...duh.

and I will take them with all of the above...every way mentioned. grilled, boiled, on a stick, with plain bread, wrapped in dough...you name it.

I never eat hot dogs except at the State Fair, but those dogs look really good. I also LOVE corndogs.

DogB- Me too! I've used a soft shell tortilla loaded like a hot dog bun more than once....
Michelle- In Grand Haven, Michigan
a corn dog stand is on the channel to Lake Michigan. It's been there about 45yrs, and they say it is the last remaining Pronto Pup (tradename) stand in America. It's a corn dog, but for years around W.Michigan a corn dog was called a Pronto Pup!
in_spired- A Chicago girl all the way! Hate that neon green relish...

We're adjusting to the American diet, but that doesn't look like to big of an adjustment to me.

Oh, hot dogs are one of my favorite foods! I don't care what's in them, I don't care how they're made...I've had hundreds of hot dogs in my life and I'm still kickin'!

I always have one hot dog with mustard and big ol' chunky chopped onions, and the other with ketchup and sweet relish.

My favorite brand is good ol' Oscar Meyer. Don't really care for Ball Park. Have never tried Hebrew National...will keep an eye out for a coupon!

By the way, I found my way over here from In_spired's place. I live in Michigan, too...howdy, neighbor!
