Meatmarket Dumpster Cat-Willow.....

Some of you have heard the story of how this cat became OUR cat(or we became her people!), but for the ones who haven't, here we go. It was around 1 week before Christmas, and I was at a West side meat market picking up kielbasa sausage for the shop party. My youngest son was with me, as I had promised him a "Justin Burger"(a friend of mine owns an old west side bar that serves a 1/2 lb. loaded burger!) after shopping. A small, crowded old butcher shop where everybody knows who's next, we waited our turn. There was a cardboard sign taped up that said" Kittens- Free To Good Home". I had not gotten a present for my wife yet, so the price seemed right! Where did you get the cats? The counter girl answered the dumpster in back where they pitched the meat when it was no longer sellable. I asked "Do you have any calicos? The girl said yes, and added it was the nicest cat in the bunch. Being impulsive, I asked if she had the kittens there. She answered they were in the car- ready for the Humane Society after work. That was all I had to hear- those cats would be dead in 48hrs! We took a look at them, and the calico was friendly and beautiful! The girl requested that we didn't change her name-Willow. We got a box, and headed for the Vets' office. I told them to give her the works, and be done before Christmas! Dewormed, defleaed, front declaw, and neutered my free cat now cost $270.00! Of our three calico cats, Willow is the nicest cat we've ever had....

I am a new cat lover. Always having dogs, I never thought that I would see the day.
Calicos are so pretty. Willow is a pretty name. I enjoy hearing these stories.

If you die in your house (you know keel over unexpectedly), cats will eat your eyes out--that's the first part they go for.

Whereas dogs, would sit along side you and die with you...

goes to show loyalty amongst the species...

har- I like dogs and cats. Heard a prayer once- "Lord make me the kind of man my dog thinks I am". Cats simply don't give a sh*t, they are the center of their universe...
lucy- My dog would eat the cat, and later- eat me. But I know the dog would feel some remorse...

Funny how she came to you through food... ;)

I could be wrong, but usually a "humane society" doesn't kill. That's the pound. No matter, it got Willow a good home!

I've always been a dog owner (I'm allergic to cats something fierce), but I love the kattitude. Of course I'm very feline myself so it stands to reason.

Finn- Our "Humane" Society will keep an animal that is healthy and marketable for awhile, as an owner might show up. The rest will be leathally injected and incinerated rather quickly, depending on how crowded the place is. I know. I turned in a stray we took in, told a buddy looking for a dog about the animal the next day. He went down to find the dog had been euthanized(48 hrs.)

Great cat! Although the eye eating story totally freaked me out, I hope this never happens to you.

You can train a dog ... but a cat will train you. Just goes to show how much smarter a cat is than a dog.

Our humane society is a kill shelter also, but only if they can't adopt out the animals. I think Willow got pretty lucky. She is a beautiful cat.

Jen- As I have never personally heard of that happening(urban legend b.s.)I think we'll be fine...
Paul- Cats cannot feel guilt, they are incapable!
lynda- This cat doesn't bite or scratch, a can stay out of harms way easily!

Most shelters are kill shelters just because of the large amounts of strays and unwanted animals that end up there. Thats why I am always on my "Animal adoption" soapbox.

Willow is so pretty!!! I miss having a cat, my daughter took our last one with her when she moved out. I have my doggies but I do miss having a kitty.
