A Simple Supper, Scallops and Brown Rice..
Monday was a hectic day, between must and shall.... You all must only imagine the priorities.. I found myself having to get a blood test for the(what seems to to be) the 90th time... The people were competent, and friendly..In the lobby, a toddler came upon me, with a set of car keys in her hand..I asked if she was driving? Mommy said no, like I couldn't figure that out by my self! You lovely women, with toddlers-you have to get out amongst adults more often!
I came home to fix a simple, yet eclectic dish- marinated scallops, with a side of brown rice.. The marinade was simple and fast. You mix good quality soy sauce, fresh lemon juice, crushed garlic, and lemon pepper. Place the cleaned and rinsed scallops into the marinade for 1 hour. Drain most of the marinade off, saute the scallops in butter quickly, until just done- and serve with rice.

You eat like a king!
Hey, I love your table and chair set too. That's really cool looking!
We special ordered both- goes with the kitchen/dining room makeover we did a couple of years back.. check out my August 21, 2007 post of the kitchen- I think you'll like it!
Very nice, simple and fresh summer dinner.
Awesome picture! Simple. Basic. Complete with soy sauce even. Looks great!
Yummy!! I will grab a bag of fresh scallops at whole foods. They sell great seafood.
...they like to jab my arm 4 or 5 times to find the vein. I always tell them to get the queen vampire. Only she can find the blood. My arm is not for rookies!!!
Denise- When there is just the two of us, I use my cooking philosophy- simple things, done well..
Gene- I spend a little more but I like the better quality soy sauce!
Hit40- Last time I was in the hospital, they poked me so many times with a needle, I thought they were practicing for their dart league...
now thats a fishermans platter - your marinade was almost a ceviche - have you tried that?
Simple but yummy food! :)
Hope the blood test comes back OK Buff. x
LOL...like you were going to go for a spin with the kid!
the marinade sounds just yummy...can I make mine shrimp instead of scallops? ;)
DogB- Not that much lemon juice, and not in marinade all that long..I've had ceviche, but never made it.. I wouldn't get anyone around here to eat it but me!
Ake- Oh, I'll be OK- if I lose weight, eat healthier, don't drink, etc.... :)
UrbanV- I was going to ask her to lunch, so she could cut up my meat for me... :)
Beth- Absolutely!
Gotta love simple.
And trust me - this mama with a toddler is doing her best to get out as often as possible.
K- It's important! When we raised our kids, I organized a bunch of couples in the same boat into a once a month supper club. Not every couple got to go every month, but once during the season, each couple would pick out and make reservations for 8, then we would all grade the restaurant.. We would tell the place our intentions, and the service we got was over the top! Much fun was had- with no kids in sight for a few hours!
At our age Buff...You gotta keep checking!!
Next time some rookie starts poking away... tell her to stop and get the go to person for blood work. There is always some one that they call who has a knack for getting the needle in. Once I had a person on each arm poking away and one on my leg trying to find a spot for an IV. Seriously. I just wanted to die at that moment - I was dehydrated from vertigo and the room was spinning non stop. Aren't you glad I shared:-)
You're a man after my own heart, you use Tamari! This sounds like an elegant and quick meal.
I will email you, I am going to take you up on your mustard offer.
G-man- Ain't it the truth...
Hit40- I'm always glad when you share(he leered)... I donated over 5 gallons of blood to the Red Cross over the years... I almost have gotten all of it back! I'm going to do a blood post in the future- we'll share some more!
Katherine- You won't be sorry!
I haven't had brown rice in a dog's age. I cook a lot of long grain & wild rice, to which some of the kids vehemently object. The toddler's mommy might have been young and dumb enough to think you'd report her to Child Services if she didn't reassure you. Really, that kind of shit happens. My daughters are waitressing this summer, and one of them was saying that sometimes kids ask her to guess their ages, and so as to not hurt their feelings by underguessing, she responds, "Hmmm, maybe you're 32?" It always gets her bigger tips.
I love brown rice! I wish more places served it- especially sushi places!
How did I almost miss this post. Hectic week here too. Sounds like a wonderfully delicious dinner. nicely done!
Maybe simple but scrumptious, lucky you.
Marjie- It really was cute.. I have no grandchildren (yet?!) but I have seen a bit of the cycle of life.. New mommys think they are unique- they aren't, but they are special and in a wonderful time of life! You know with all your kids, it is easy to get so involved with kids, you forget you are a person with a life too!
LiLu- Brown rice is our runaway favorite rice! Nutty, chewy and tasty!
Donna- Thanks! At about five bucks a plate, doubles the enjoyment!
Glennis- Welcome! I found simple, done well is as good as it gets..
Yum, yum. Hope the tests came out OK. LOL at the kid with the car keys and Mums comment.
Take care.
I agree with you comment about the kiddie drugs...
Adam talks non stop about everything and nothing. And he never sits down long enough to even see a whole cartoon when he is off the drugs.
KB- No worries, mate!
Hit40- We were blessed with a good school system who alerted us to his condition, and a responsible doctor who didn't go overboard with drugs. I have the attention span of a ferret, so I think I know where it came from!
I have been meaning to tell you how much I like the plates in your food photos, but I am too busy drooling over your menus...like the furniture too!
Time for scallops in this house on Sunday...we are going into NYC to meet a fellow blog for eats and visiting at his sisters in Manhattan...just thought I would share :O) Hope your doing fine, and the blood test went well...

ChefE- My oldest, dearest friends, aren't into the cutting edge of food... if I go with things I know they will like, it gets gone! I wish they were more adventure- oriented, but they aren't- and they are my friends... friendship is something no one should ever ignore..
Are you sure your doctor really isn't just a vampire feeding his/her habit? ;)
Scallops look and sound absolutely great!
Now I'm hungry for scallops...might make an interesting Sunday Breakfast...(grin!!!)
I'm off to check out your post you mentioned to blueviolet - I SO want to do a kitchen makeover, I really don't like my current kitchen (it came with the house...*grin!*)
