Filet Mignon, Sour Cream and Chive Scalloped Potatoes, and a Treat...
Scored a small beef tenderloin, at the unheard of price of $4.99 a lb.! Beef tenderloin does not have to be prime beef- the lowest quality one is still quite tender... My only "Beef" with tenderloin is that while very tender, it isn't as flavorful as some cuts of beef... Still, there is very little waste, and a great meal can be had from this cut of meat! I paired it with home made scalloped redskin potatoes, in a sour cream/chive side dish.. I use fresh, chopped onions, a white sauce, with parsley, fresh chives, sea salt & coarse ground pepper, and sour cream as a sauce- and of course, sliced potatoes! Covered and baked for 1 hour at 360F, then uncovered and baked for another 1/2 hour, they are tender and flavorful. My wife ate about a pound of them on her own! The banana bread is a dessert version, with chocolate chips in it.... Put peanut butter on it and Elvis will appear!
Wife is going to a play in town- Willy Wonka... I've got a golden ticket... Gene Wilder was Willy Wonka- Johnny Depp sucked!

I haven't had a proper meal today! We went to a christening and the buffet afterwards with the usual finger food. Since we got home I've had a cheese on toast and a cadbury's fudge! :(
I make my pumpkin bread with chocolate chips, but never put peanut butter on it..... I'm thinking I might have to try that.
Ake- In the words of the song.. "Momma said there'd be days like this"... :)
Kate- Try things you've never heard of, it will make you famous!
Sigh....I've got a flank steak taking a bath in chimichurri right now and I was ready to eat it hours ago. You aren't helping matters with this post, BD!
I find redskin potatoes to be more flavorful and less dry than other potatoes. Hubby's Irish family disagrees, of course. Yours look great!
red bliss are nice and that steak oh yeah that steak.......
Chris- Sounds great!
Margie-It was pretty good!
DogB- potatoes better than beef!
Love my filet mignon wrapped in bacon, pan seared, and baked till done. The potatoes sound delicious!
Oh yum yum, the spud sauce is making me drool .
Johnny Depp gave me the creeps in that movie which is strange because he usually makes me drool. Even more than potatoes.
Banana bread with peanut butter. I had't even considered this before, but if Elvis will appear...
Btw, I just posted about a bad Johnny Depp performance. I had forgotten about Willy Wonka; he sucked in that one as well.
PS - He makes a good pirate and that's about it!
Donna- I was on everyone else's timetable Sunday- didn't get to do what I wanted..
KB- I generally like his work, but not that time!
Scarlet- He has his hits and misses...
Great food! If Elvis shows up please get me an autographed photo!
lol
Oh Yeah, now were talkin! Get to the Steak...
Filet Mignon, one of my favs. (Still would rather have a nice, thick PORTERHOUSE, I drool just thinkin about 'em) anyhow, My to-die-for has to be 'Prime Rib'~~ cook'd right, should melt in your mouth!
...let me know when that is dinner, and what time I should be there! hahahaaa.
Gene- This dessert version of banana bread is really good!
StarB- Rib-eye is my favorite cut of beef...
This is definitely a meal for champions...what time do we eat?
;-)
Those potatoes sound great, and so does that banana bread!
I agree. Gene Wilder was the one for me. I made banana bread this weekend. Doggy originally inspired me, but I now substitute some flour for cocoa powder. Chocolate Banana Bread lasts about 2 minutes in our house.
Those baked potatoes sound good too.
You are dead-on about the tenderloin. Not a lot of flavor, but it is very very hard to ruin.
Katherine- It did hit the spot, but I wish I would have grilled the steaks...
Mona- The potatoes probably the hit of the meal..
Belle- Banana bread is very flexible- nuts, dried cherries, dried cranberries, any flavor chip, etc...
G-man- At $4.99 lb. I had to get a small loin..
This may be the best meal I have seen in a very long time! Filet??? My freaking favorite!!!! You are so lucky.
Maybe my near death experience is eating steak four days in a row, now I am going to Texas, so I might as well down a whole cow while I am there :O)
This looks damn good to me...and I am looking for that pork chop post...hmmm help me out here...
Taters any way...we'll take 'em. Like the creamy scallops!
