Broiled Salmon With Long Lost Dessert.. Tapioca Pudding!
We are trying to have a bit more fish in our diet, so Tuesday night I broiled a large salmon fillet. While rummaging for the correct spices I wanted to use (lemon pepper, dill, sea salt) I came across a small package of tapioca(instant) and decided I would fix some- as I probably haven't had any in 20yrs.! It really isn't "instant" as it still takes 20 minutes to make, and I was planning on refrigerating it before supper... I added a little vanilla and almond extract, along with a splash of maraschino cherry juice- as I think all those flavors go well with each other. Salmon was great, but next time with the tapioca I'll use old fashioned style- the texture of the instant was not was I was expecting, and it came off a bit too sweet for me...My stuff looked pretty homely compared to the desserts Pinknest and jeff posted today! Check them out!

What are you running some sort of food club over here??
Buff...I gotta tell you, we seriously need to consider having a Michigan Bloggers Meet-up, and make it a cook-out. My friend Signgurl is an AWESOME cook, and we could have a riot!!
Think about it...
We would shake up the world!!!
G
Ah, tapioca. I grew up on the stuff--it was our go-to dessert. I really should make it again.
Love salmon, it will be good bass fishing here in a couple of months I can't wait to fry up some fillets,
Buff! You cooked my favorite!!
I think you should have a Michigan Bloggers meet-up and invite those of us who are within reasonable driving distance too. Chicago isn't that far away!!
Yum! Love salmon, of any sort.
I have a crockpot tapioca recipe. 3 hours, but it turns out flawless tapioca every time. If you're interested, e-mail me!
g-man: I've been a participant in the State of Mich BB-Q Cook-off (KCBS) since its' inception! Got about 10 ribbons too! Bags of trophies in Chili cook-offs, and a couple of stray awards from the G.R.Press! You might be on to something here...
UrbanV- Welcome back, world traveler! Tapioca, and pudding were my Moms answer to dessert! She grew up poor, and had the famous Dutch sweet tooth!
rog- I have eaten bass- smallmouth and largemouth, and it's good! But it is generally thought of here as a game fish- catch, measure, photo, release!
dana- If we do this, the invite will be to all who visit these blogs!
gnightgirl- I think I just might! It sounds great!
I'm sad to report that you lost me with the tapioca pudding. I've put a lot of crazy things in my mouth (snicker) but Tapioca is one thing I can't go back to!
BTW we did "breakfast" last night for supper! Blueberry pancakes, bacon, and sausage links!
leighann- Tapioca falls in that "Love it or hate it" group... Please post list on what you do allow in your mouth... Breakfast would be elegant afterward... (Please don't bring out my evil side-it's a bad idea!)
tapioca need I say is one of my favorites (but then what isnt) and I hope that salmon was moist in the middle...
Tapioca is not one of my favorites, but I swear you make everything look delicious!
DogB- Salmon done right- sometimes doesn't look like it because a heavy crust of spices and seasonings...Back to old-fashioned tapioca...
lynda- Sadly, it looked prettier than it tasted...
Cant remember the last time i had tapioca!
My long lost dessert is this rice pudding that my grandmother made with raisins and fresh grated cinnamon. YUM!
Hopefully the salmon was wild and not farmed raised...it's like a totally different fish.
Mom used to make tapioca... never had any as comforting as hers I'm afraid.
Fish - brain food... need some of that.
Now I'm really hungry.
wow--I haven't had tapioca in forever!
No, NO, NO Tapioca bleugggh, it reminds me of school dinners!
The salmon looks fab though, I'll just have that thanks. x
Takes me back to school days. Tapioca and a large blob of jam of uncertain origin.
Delicious!
Hey. you tried.
and i'd rather the salmon come out.
Hell yeah, I LOVE the instant tapioca pudding although I agree that the "instant" part is more than a bit misleading.
casdok- That's kind of why I made it- me either!
michell ann- That's another one I forgot about! Better than Tapioca...
anndi- My mom wasn't much of a cook- but great with desserts!
tavolini- Kinda retro, wasn't it?
Ake- I always brought my lunch- would only eat in cafeteria on "Pizza Day"!
meredic- Tapioca needs something with it- it's pretty bland...
tanya- Not everything works out..
sornie- I forgot, you're the pudding freak! We go in and out of streaks on pudddings...
There's a lot of waters out there in Michigan I wouldn't eat fish out of especially around Battle Creek. But I never got to go fishing up north in the UP drat!
It looks yummy! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Salmon. It's one of my favorite foods, and I love Tapioca pudding. I haven't made it in years, but I do buy the little "already made" tubs. And yea, it's REALLY sweet, but I still love it!
rog- About mid state on up, the fish are probably OK! Had smallmouth out of Higgins Lake- one of the most beautiful in the U.S.! Largemouth, smoked! Not too bad!
bina- I get the feeling you are pretty OK with anything you do! A life skill- for sure!
Well, putting the cherry juice in the tapioca probably made it too sweet!I love tapioca...haven't made it in a while either......
Peace
Buff!!! I eat my tapioca pudding out of a can!!! How disgusting is that??!!! Yours sounds delish, texture and all....
hahahaha--In response to your response to Ake--I always brought my lunch except for "Pizza Day" too :)
-Lini
Looks delish! Of course, everything you make turns me into a drooler!
odat- make some, I will await your comments!
Beth-You and me,under an overpass, splitting a bottle of cheap wine- do we have a date, or what?!!
lini- You are such a Michigan chick! If I were a younger man, Tav would have some competition....:)
R.L.L.- Can you push the buttons, or what?
With all the food I've been around in my life you would think tapioca pudding would be something I've tried, but somehow that one has escaped my tasted buds.
Buff...
I picked up two huge boneless Chuck Roasts for 1.98 a pound..
Beef Jerky this week-End Brother.....G
jeff- It's kind of a retro thing- pretty bland.. but it did bring back memories!
G-man: Go for it! Mine came out flavorful, texture was right- but a little more salt would have put it where it needed to be..
speaking of tapioca pudding...
t.q.m.b.- Huh?
Mimi- I am not technically advanced enough, but thanks for the offer!
I love steamed salmon.... salmon is me most favourite fish and I try and have it at least once a week......
Say NO to tapioca..... oh the horrors of school dinners lol
Dam, now I WANT salmon and garden peas and a corn on the cob....gawds sake.... thats a week of hospital grub for ya lol.....
