A Week-end Of Food, Nothing Fancy!
Since we had pizza Thursday, a simple scrambled egg, ham , mushroom, and cheese concoction sounded about right.. too messy to call an omelette! Saturday was even simpler- toasted cheese sammiches on rye- good cheddar though.. Sat. night I took the last of my venison, ground it- along with three pork steaks, to make either meatloaf or meatballs for Sunday.. Seasoned the night before eating, but added oatmeal and egg as a binder Sunday morning, it became meatloaf! Venison can be a bit stronger than beef, but is dead lean! Texture was firm and good- flavor was pronounced, nothing a little catsup and mustard couldn't cure! Had egg noodles on the side- we're kind of potato and riced out around here...
I'll probably make some treat later today, as I have all afternoon- wife went to a play!

Can't wait to hear what you came up with later! :)
Sounds good to me...no cooking here for now, just tuna fish on lettuce salad, and banana peppers! I have been too tired to cook the past few days, I am kind of glad we are going out to dinner Monday, then again a rest day...
Oh, duh, I bet your venison-sausage is orgasmic...at least I think so!
Ake- Just something a little sweet..
Chef- Haven't felt much like cooking either!
I could go for some of that meatloaf on toast with a slice of tomato....
You ground your own venison? You could have a regular cooking shows out there, huh?
Thanks for the tips on the meatloaf.. I have never heard of adding oatmeal (though, my husband was once making meatballs and added steel-cut oats mistakenly thinking they were breadcrumbs. He was probably trying to watch sports at the same time.)
DogB- Meatloaf was tasty and firm- but flavor was indeed stronger than I would have liked!
CDB- Truth be told, I was out of bread crumbs, and oatmeal works fine as a filler/binder...
I love scrambled eggs with stuff thrown in - simple, but wonderful.
I have a thing with texture. I want to try it, but if it doesn't have a good mouth feel, I can't get into it. It's a horrible thing.
I bought some fresh pork mince and steak mince this weekend. I made the kids hamburgers - mince, worcester sauce, american mustard and herbs. I made a meatloaf with half the pork and half the steak mince and also make some baby meatballs with the steak mince. The kids love them.
I always use oatmeal in my meatloaf -- and I make a killer meatloaf!
Ya know...I've been dyan for a good grilled cheese. Served with a side of Campbell's Tomato soup.
Have a Great Week Buff....G
K- I've been practicing with a griddle instead of my omelette pan.. oops!
Kate- Texure matings and blends make a big difference!
Belle- ground meat can be very versitile! I ground my own, because I was out!
Jeanne- It certainly works!
G-man- When you don't know what you want- have a grilled cheese sandwich!
That sounds really, really good. I LOVE meat loaf! But I'm assuming you have a meat grinder, huh? Must be nice, mister!
Bina- Kitchen-Aid Mixer has attachment- works great!
My weekend was great too. I went 'sightseeing' at malls and had an eyeful of cartiers and versace and burberry etc. Got some designer shoes and some unmentionables and some beauty products and perfumes.
Mona- You even saying unmentionables is pretty exciting! Hope you're having some fun time during a tough time...
venison is okay. I like it in chili, but right now I could go for a thick, melt in your mouth Prime Rib, with lobster on the side. Damn, now I'm hungry!
Starbender
Sbender- Who the heck wouldn't? I would kill a beloved family member for lobster...
I wish I lived near you :) I would invite myself over for supper LMFAO..... well, you would have to lay off the pork though... lol
x
I've still got me a good 50+ lbs of deer meat in the deepfreeze. Venison burgers all summer !
Oatmeal and deer meat, huh? I've yet to try venison and I'd probably prefer it mixed with beef in meatloaf for starters (since you say it has a strong taste). A nice glass (or two) of red would help.
I'm curious about your afternoon treat. What'd you make??
I could go for some of them eggs! YUM! the meatloaf you can keep! ;)
even your nothing fancy looks fab!
Grilled cheese..... Ummmm.....
Marmy- Pork has been such a bargain here, and it is flexible.. I know- you are allergic!
Heff- Lucky guy!
Scarlet- mixes well with beef- but it is super lean, so go with a high fat content of beef-80/20 works.. Skipped the treat until Monday- then had three bananas ripe enough for bread!
Beth- I like eggs too!
Helene- Thanks! Sometimes I run out of ideas..
Kate- Comfort food at it's simplest!
Potatoed out? No way!! :)
Looks good, comfort and taste!
I think I'm going to attempt a potato kugel soon!
yummmmm...you are making me hungry!
