If It's Friday, It Must Be Pizza...
As I have mentioned before, more often than not, Friday night is pizza night! Sometimes we buy one and have it delivered, but often- I make one from scratch.. When I make a "home made" pizza, I make a big one! As you can see, it fills a cookie sheet... I have a pizza stone, pizza peel, and occasionally use them- when I'm in the mood. The crust I use is Giada DeLaurentis'(The pretty woman with the big noggin on The Food Channel! Probably misspelled her name..) version which is simple and comes out every time! The key to decent pizza crust is to be patient and let it rise! Use your favorite toppings sparingly, then bake quickly at 450F for about 15 minutes. The pros have ovens that run far hotter, with shorter cooking times- which is why theirs is always a little better than ours!
It's corned beef and cabbage next, followed by Reuben sandwiches! I'm not Irish, but I do enjoy good corned beef! Fun fact to know and yell... Ireland does not consider this a traditional meal for St. Paddys! Irish immigrants were looking for an inexpensive replacement for Irish style bacon, and their Jewish neighbors introduced them to Kosher corned beef as a substitute!

pizza is so fun to make, but I never knew you could bake it in a cookie sheet!
B & S Make sure it is heavy gauge aluminum!
buff: that is good accurate trivia - I have some irish friends that have never had corned beef and cabbage... the pizza looks good - we have had pizza three times in the last 10 days...I am off to buy a big ol' corned beef today...begorrah or whatever...LOL
DogB- On sale here for $1.99 a lb.!! Bought two, almost 4 pounders..
I'm not a pizza fan but I like corned beef. One of my (and MWM's) favourite recipes is Beef in a Blanket. A version of toad in the hole. Thick slices of corned beef spread with mustard, put in a roasting tin then pour yorkshire pudding batter around the slices and cook. Serve with lashings of onion gravy. Mmmmmm delicious!
Ake- You just went "Brit" on me! I'm pretty sure what all that means though!
Really?! I never knew that about the traditional feast on St. Patrick's Day. Corned beef was on sale at Trader Joe's but you had to buy like 10 lbs of it!! Which just intimidated me a little.
Your pizza looks fantastic. Do you make the dough from scratch (or did you buy the cooking lady's?)
I LOVE pizza though we dont have it often.....
But oh how I adore corned beef sarnies...... but ake's ways sounds delish....
oh and as an adult I do like cabbage, but as a child I was beaten for not eating cabbage and the plate of cabbage was put in front of me for 3 days until I ate it.... lol
x
CDB- Stratch! Been making them for years! 10lbs. of corned beef= about 6 lbs. of fully cooked- it shrinks!
Marmy- I sat in front of a plate of food I refused to eat more than once! I was one, picky, stubborn kid..
I was not picky cabbage actually really made me puke up....... I might be stubborn or so may think now in life..... but but I still aint picky lol
x
Marmy- I was picky, but life beat it out of me! Still a stubborn little bastard, I won't deny...
Oh Buff that looks f*ing great...oh how our dinner just turned into pizza :)
Chef- The Universal Language= Pizza!
Irish as I am (one of my great-grandmothers immigrated here from the Old Sod), I did not know that. Thanks for the info!
Jeanne- For what it's worth, I've seen the Irish in you! Ain't all bad...
I love Reuben sandwiches! I should know better than to read you when I'm hungry...dammit!
That pizza's calling my name...and I took a peek at Tuesday's post (I don't know how I missed it), and I'm falling inlove with the arroz con pollo. It's been a while since I've had it and I like it with beer. It's no good without a can of beer in it and if it's not eaten right when it's ready ("a la chorrera") I don't like it. I'm picky with my rice and chicken. ;) I like the Cuban version. (Let me know if you want the recipe.)
Hope you're having a great weekend!
Scarlet- You've become a favorite of mine, anything you wish to share- I'll be listening! You are a lovely lady at many levels and subjects!
mmmm homemade pizza is there anything better?
UncleBuf, Friday night is our movie night and we usually always have pizza too! :)
I've never ever had corned beef before.

I have a lazy streak when it comes to pizza. Always buy one instead of taking the time to go homemade.
We did Italian last night too! It was my sons 16th bd so he got to choose dinner. Pasta and meatballs! I sooo lucked out! lol
That pizza looks deelish! Thanks for your help input on the comment guru. Hope to see you there again!
Darngirl- Sometimes they are more work than you want them to be!
Snow- I love corned beef in sandwiches!
Jeff- I do both!
Kate- That was nice of him!
ComedyG- Welcome to the blog!
buff they had them for a buck 99 and then if you used your store club card they were a buck 59...I bought the two biggest ones...
mmmm pizza. I have to stop coming here at nights, it always makes me want to binge!
We are a friday night pizza night as well - both the boys look forward to it.
The weekend menu sounded fun as well - Happy St. Patick's Day.
That is neat--I didn't know that fact about corned beef!! I worked at an Irish deli throughout most of college, and we would cook a TON of corned beef. Also did blood sausages and other gross stuff ;)
In a perfect world, every night would be pizza night for me!
DogB- The bigger the better! I'm hoping stores have some left over after Tues...
Jen- Pizza is on everyones menu in America!
K- Unexpected company changed my Reuben plans to Monday!
Tavolini- I can't wait for BB-Q Brisket season!
The Pizza looks great Buff.
I did my Corned Beef on Sunday.
G-man- I love the stuff!

Pink- Me too!
Your pizza looks restaurant worthy!! Big noggin .. you are funny! Thanks for the smile and for the craving for pizza now. I have to go check out her recipe:)
That looks yummy. I'm writing that pizza crust down. That's available in grocery stores?
Donna- Simple, and the darn thing comes out right every time! Never realized how big her head was in porportion to her body- too busy looking at her cleavage!
Steph- Not to my knowledge, but all were talking about is olive oil, flour, yeast, sugar, and water...
Mmmm. I love me some homemade pizza. My fiance and I love making it on random nights. It's so much better than store bought or delivered...
M J - Welcome to the blog! Friendlies and foodies is what you find here! Hope you come back soon!
I like beef, but I don't like corned beef. It's the corns that make my tounge all ick.
Who, where or why - I love it - Corned beef and cabbage.
Kate- Probably the salt, cook it longer!
Belle- I enjoy it like you do!
Man, I love pizza. This one looks great! I'll have to try Giada's recipe.
Emily- You're the best baker I know- let me know how you make dough for pizza!
We had pizza this weekend, too. I made the crust, but forced the girls into indentured servitude for cutting and placing toppings. Too much work for a simple dinner, and one I don't terribly like!
Marjie- Pizza home made is borderline not worth it... It isn't cheaper than take-out, but because it's so uncommon- people love it!
Why do homemade pizzas always look more like a casserole ? I guess people just tend to over-top them when made at home. - GUILTY.
Yummmm, I want pizza too!
Haha- I was correct in pegging you as a reubenaholic! So now are you actually Irish or Jewish or even luckier-- both? Now that I think about it, I actually am both.
I'm Dutch! Most boring cuisine in the world! I learned to cook because of it!
if you have a papa murphys, you must try their veggie delite with the white cream sauce...i cook it til it's crunchy...yum.
Tanya- I bought a dozen pizzas from them and added toppings- big hit at a men's meeting of my club!
