Halloween Is Cool!
Ever since I was a little kid, Halloween has been one of my favorite times! Buffalo Dick at 5yrs old: "You mean we get to dress up in a costume so no one knows who we are and scream Trick or Treat at our neighbors-and they give us candy!!??" I was hooked. I grew up as part of the "Baby Boom" in a predominently Catholic neighborhood. This meant untold numbers of children running up and down the streets, gathering as much loot as possible before 9pm when we had to be home! You always went in a mob of kids to be safer from predators. No not perverts! Older kids that would steal your candy! By age 12 you had the drill down pat, but you knew soon you'd be too old to be doing this candy thing next year. Age 13-18. Roam the streets throwing eggs at other teens, cars, and houses! My high school had an unsanctioned Junior/Senior egg fight every year at a riverside park. It got so big, the cops patrolled so it wouldn't happen. So a hundred or so guys armed with thousands of eggs(some rotten) were turned away to go into the neighborhoods instead! Real bright, huh? Buffalo Dick at 30-40: Wife takes our two boys T or T, while dad stays home and passes out candy. Buffalo Dick at 40-50: Adult costume parties! Dressing up and handing out candy to kids! Throwing flash paper fireballs for their entertainment! Nowadays, we just hand out treats at home, missing the days when Hell was actually raised on All Hallows' Eve.....Buahahahahaa.....
Oh yeah, as we have no kids at home anymore we just put the ceramic jack-o-lantern in the window. I miss carving scary faces in pumpkins and roasting salted pumpkin seeds!

Yeah!! Tonight is going to be...... F U N!!!!!
Tag!!!! You're it! Come see
You could always adopt then you can do it all again! :)
OK not one of my better ideas. :(
Happy Halloween to you, Buffalo!
I also have fond childhood memories of Halloween!
fun fun fun.....you should still dress up and scare the kids..
Just because you are older now, doesn't mean you can't have fun. We set up a little haunted house and the kids have to run the gauntlet to get their candy ...
And a good time is had by all.
but you can still dress up and toast pumpkin seeds and carve pumpkins! i wish i had the space to throw a big halloween party.
aww Buff...you need to go and get a pumpkin and carve your little heart out.
mike- It's a little windy and misty tonight, we'll see how many show up for candy! I'll do that tag in a day or so...
Ake- We'd have to adopt- my wife and I BOTH got fixed after we had our last kid!
in_spired- I would be suspect of a kid who didn't like Halloween!
DogB- No time between work and when they hit my door to get an outfit together..
Paul- I never said I didn't have fun on Halloween, just not crazy fun like when I was younger!
Pink- I may just buy some on sale pumpkins tomorrow and do those salty toasted seeds...
Beth- I really should have, darn it!
I love Halloween, too. I have such fond memories of trick or treating on the mts where I grew up.
It sounds like you've had some good Halloween times throughout the years! I hope this one was a happy one too.
So why don't you continue with the tradition of carving the ole pumpkin and roasting the seeds... sounds like fun and yummmy too.
BTW to you use the pumpkin flesh in recipes?
I heard somebody on the radio saying she was eating a pumpkin muffin... yummm
Egg fights? Ha ha, where do kids come up with this stuff? And better yet, why haven't I done this yet?
Halloween RULES! I had just a few trick or treaters before I had to leave to go have dinner with my parents. Certainly an unconventional Halloween this year -- Chinese food! But I'm recovering from a breakup and not in the mood to party really.
Sounds like a good time there!
Halloween is so much fun, but it just doesn't seem like what it use to be.
UrbanV- Grew up in the mountains? Why am I envisioning you trick or treating in a "Hedii" costume? :)
Jen- My next post will cover it!
nancybee- I'm a canned pumpkin man when it comes to cooking!
hanni- Welcome to the blog! Throwing eggs at people is a seriously satisfying activity!
Steph- As long as you wore a Chinese costume, I'm OK with it...
queenie- It really is a fun time for all (except the sourballs that won't play along!).
lynda- It's still fun, you just have to jump in!
LOL!! I don't think I'll ever outgrow carving pumpkins. ;)
