A Little Food Update, And A Little Life Thrown In!
Sunday, we weren't that hungry, and I wasn't in Cooking Mode, like I get sometimes..
I made a Chicken, mushroom, Fettucini Alfredo- the sauce was garlicky, extra Parmesan, and quite tame(and good!) by my standards.. We ate it and enjoyed..
Monday, I made my wife's favorite- pan fried seasoned pork steak, with those crappy out-of-the-tube-dinner rolls, that everyone one eats and no one admits to.. Creative juices do not flow every day.. Sometimes simple "go to" foods fill the need better than haute cuisine! "Gourmet" doesn't mean fancy and bad, but neither does "Simple" mean plain and bad... If you eat without speaking, if you go "mmmmm", if you smile and keep chewing... any of those signs would let a knowing good cook they have succeeded! Appreciate good food, at all levels- and avoid being a snob about any food... it shows you know more than you should be simply feeling..
Son's girlfriend is having car troubles in the form of a battery that doensn't work... Son calls to let me know he needs some of my car equipment STAT! Fine, but you can do it yourself, unless you need advice! My days of crawling under a car are over!

I made chicken and mushroom as well on Sunday!
I actually made a "real" dinner last night - maple pecan pork chops and I have a pan of stuffed shells (that I made) in the frige ready for tonight.
Nothing I make is fancy, but I was proud that nothing has come out of box or jar yet this week.
Hell, YOU may not have been that hungry, but now I'm STARVING ! Oh, look - it's lunchtime....
I cook from scratch most days but occasionally something quick, ready and tasty just hits the spot!
" I wasn't in Cooking Mode, like I get sometimes.." like you get "sometimes"?! Impressive, your default setting.
I lvoe that your son raced to the rescue of his gf with her car issues. You raised him well!
And to answer your comment.. you clearly do not watch "The Bachelor." Pat yourself on the back.
I love my food simple. after eating rich for a while, nothing like returning to good old simple food!
Doc- Some stuff is what you gotta do..
K- be proud- you is smart!
Heff- I know you can cook, by what I have read... more importantly- you know what a part of good food is living a good life!
Ake- We have known each other for a long time, and I know exactly what you mean!
CDB- My sons are a source of pride for me, and objects of love for my wife.. who'd a thunk simple sex would lead to this??!!
Mona- I know and love how you can cook, and I only can hope you enjoy a good meal that someone else prepares once in a while!
believe it or not I rarely feel like cooking but it is one of lifes necessities and I am a necessary kind of guy...take now for instance- no wanna' but I will.
I will not say a word and go mmmm several times, I promise. Just give me some food! ; )
DogB- I long for a world that needs what we are passionate about, but still goes to McDonalds because they brainwashed/and advertised to death...
Jen- Anytime!
Mmmm. I'm hooked on the biscuits in the bag, you just take out how many you need, which is nice when there's only 2 of us.
gumbo that is what I had tonight...your food looks good..
those crappy dinner rolls? LOVE 'EM! I love anything that is bad for me...and I think that pasta sauce would be very very bad for me....so bring it on!!! ;)
Yep, sometimes a quickie just hits the right spot LOL
x
mmm, that steak sounds good!
i'm afraid to crawl under cars. i feel they will blow up when i do.
Hoodchick- Good eats is where you find them!
Darngirl- Gumbo sounds darn good, darngirl!
Beth- When kids were home, we bought and ate food I wouldn't touch today- if they liked it, would eat it, and it was easy, it went on the menu!
Marmy- A good quickie doesn't need a lot of planning...LOL!
Pink- I just don't roll around much on frozen ground to save money anymore!
Canned ham mixed with mustard and grated velveeta spread on crescent rolls?
Yeah. It's good.
All the time.
Kate- I agree, but don't go around bragging about it- it just leads to trouble!
I'll take simple or fancy...just cook! I love seeing what you make!
I kinda like those crappy rolls...
R.L.L.- Thanks! I'm just more proud some days, than others!
Finn- Like I said "we all eat'em" but don't feel good about it! I made eight, we ate 6...
The less planning in a quickie the more enjoyable the taste LMAO... ;)

Fettucini Alfredo looks great. Parmesan. I love it. I use it to add depth to so many things.
You weren't that hungry and you made fettiucine Alfredo?????????
It all looks yummy!!!
Peace
Marmy!!!
Belle- Always grate my own...
Odat- I didn't feel like cooking, and it goes together quickly!
ush, one time I had my truck crash down after an (EX) did a lousy job of jack placement. Needless to say, I made sure I was the one who placed the jack from then on.
Simple foods are oftentimes the best!! (and I am a fan of those biscuits in a can, I admit it!!)
I made homemade chicken soup on Monday from chicken thighs I crockpotted on Sunday. Pretty good, but it seems like no matter how careful I am, I always find that gristly stuff -- ligaments? -- when I start with chicken thighs. Grrr.
As in a quick pasta dish always tastes nicer LOL
twas just your dirty mind :)
x
Tavolini- I bought an overkill floor jack years ago- will pick up half a car in nothing flat! We didn't eat those rolls until about 3 months ago, and I'm ashamed to admit how many we've eaten since!
Jeanne- thighs are my favorite cut off a chicken- moist, meaty, and it's dark meat! BB-Q cook-offs are almost always won with thighs in the chicken catagory..
Marmy- MY dirty mind? My foot! :)
Buf.. (((HUGS)))....
Food snobs usually eat food that looks pretty but has little taste.
A potato is a potato no matter how you cook it.
As for your sons...you are so right. A mom's love is infinite. Sounds like you did a great job raising yours.
I love pork steaks, but I have never fried them, or put them in a pan. I bake or grill almost everything! And hey, can you ever have too much garlic? Well, I guess you can, but I haven't gotten there yet! LOL
Mona- How did you know I needed a Mona hug? xoxo..
Romi- I have come to believe the most normal sounding families are just as dysfunctional as anyone else! We did our best, and that's all you can do! As I've said before, About the time you get the hang of it, you're gone!
Bina- Pan fry them in butter, seasoned. Get them cut thin as possible, don't over heat them or leave them on too long... you'll never make them any other way!
That last part sounded like my dad, and also my mom since I was the last to have kids, and my parents were considerably older compared to most, so she said "I do not babysit, but I take consultation phone calls"...maybe the reason I bought my son his own tools and car books when he learned to drive, and he cooks too!
The food would not be turned away here either...
