Our local Class "A" team, the West Michigan Whitecaps are in town today, suiting up to take on the Great Lakes Loons. Don't you just love the minor leagues' names and mascots? Baseball at this level is half baseball, half circus-with events happening between almost every inning! Little League kids get introduced, large groups that came out are aknowledged, mascots race each other, they slingshot tee-shirts into the crowd, etc. Probably a slice of Midwestern life that hasn't changed as much as some! Our ballpark is a really excellent facility, and believe it or not-the food is really good! It's going to be a hot, humid day here so we will see how long we last.
Yesterday was Make-The-Dry Rubs-BBQ Sauces-Marinades-Day in preparation for the State of Michigan BBQ Cook-off. When you come back from Gordon Foods with $56.00 in spices and sauce bases, you know we mean business! Enjoy your Sunday!

state cook off coming soon...sounds like more fun...I remember those games as a kid in New Mexico we sould see the Albuquerque Dukes...same mayhem.
DoggyB- You can join our team anyday! You're a great cook and been known to drink adult beverages-you'll fit right in!
more cook offs? You guys have the life!
Knock it out of the park!!!!!!!!
I have never been to a minor league game, but that makes it sound like fun!

ya know what? this is what midwest life is all about....you've got it all right there.
dry rub and sauces...yum
sigh! I wish I could get a day off from cooking!...lucky men!
Jen- This is more work than going to work! All day Fri and Sat, up all night tending fire-with the pressure of competition!
Mike- Whitecaps won, but it was over 92F, with nowhere to hide!
Snow- Attendance was low due to blistering heat, but that meant the giveaways (boxes of pasta, and pop tarts)were generous!
Beth- Definitely a family day!
Mona- I do most of the cooking around here, and I get a day off too...
when's the state cookoff?
Sometimes you just gotta kickback and relax.
Lynda- The only thing missing at the ballpark to complete the torture was stakes and fire ants! God! Was it hot!
Pink- July 13th &14th, much work still to be done!
We used to have a AA team (the El Paso Diablos affiliated with the Diamondbacks), but they left and all we have now is an independant league team with the same name. That sucks.
You know I have never seen a baseball game. This despite having visited American cousins in my youth, albeit on an air force base in Suffolk. I understand that some of the sublties are lost on the novice in much the same way that cricket is a puzzle to your side of the pond.
I do wish I could see that barbeque cook off. Nothing nlike that here either.
Sigh! No such luck for me Buf! I have to cook seven days a week, three times a day these days! India women are no so alucky as american ones. They have very helpful husbands. In India even a career woman has to do all house work alone!
Paul- Farm league is pretty cool. When Whitecaps became an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, we were geeked! Not as cool as triple A Toledo Mudhens though....
Meredic- Baseball may be one of the most difficult games to be a fan of, as learning all the rules could take a lifetime...
Mona- Escape to America, where you will be welcomed-and if you choose, never cook again!
The Loons...love it. Our company softball team is called "Orange Crush." It sounds so much fiercer than we are.
